For blues and blues/rock soloing, often times we take a basic technique of just utilizing the small pentatonic/blues scale for the entire thing …

And while that works over 12 bar blues changes, often it sounds much better when there is some other chord development (especially if you’ve got a long time on each chord) to play “go after the chord.”

So in this video I’ll reveal you how I like to do that over a couple of progressions comparable to ZZ Top’s “Cheap Sunglasses” and “Could Not Stand The Weather” by Stevie Ray Vaughan.
