Antonio Carlos Jobim’s “Wave” was the title track of his 5th album, launched in 1967. Mimi Fox summons the spirits of numerous jazz guitar players in her performance on this 2011 Santa Cruz Firefly parlor guitar, among 27 instruments used in the Acoustic Guitar Auction that begins Might 13, 2021.
The small-bodied Firefly was presented by Santa Cruz in 2007; this is number 146, with the optional sunburst surface. This is a thoroughly contemporary reimagining of the 19th century parlor guitar; only the 24″ scale length is retained. You’ll find design elements echoing the terrific Martin and Gibson guitars of the 20th century, melded into a distinct and hypnotically playable instrument.
