A lot of guitarist … and it seems particularly blues players …

Have this goal of “mastering the fretboard,” which sounds really cool, till you attempt to exercise how that’s going to be done …

For instance, A NUMBER OF my students come to me saying they’ve been practicing all 5 boxes of the pentatonic scale or blues scale … but they still can’t actually solo.

That’s because, plain and easy, you need to focus on little areas of the fretboard simultaneously.

Which is PARTICULARLY real when you start trying to change noises from significant blues to minor blues or anything else you want to include (like the house pattern, or loaning notes from another scale … etc.).
